I'm currently trying to develop it based on my personal needs for the whole workflow and processes that come after doing a photo shoot. I definitely don't intend to position it as a Lightroom alternative in the terminal. Happy to hear suggestions!
I think that's the most powerful use case of AI for me, the possibility to build pretty polished tools for exactly my use case.
I might push them on GitHub but don't really expect anyone to use them or contribute. Just recently I've built a small layer on top of beets (The music library organizer) to improve some of my workflows (https://github.com/dewey/beets-importer), others might have the same use case but they might as well just generate their own tool for exactly what they need.
Yes, personalised software is a very useful field. Years ago, it was: is there an app for that? Now that's no longer the bottleneck, and you can make an app as individual as you like. That also means that selling apps gets more and more difficult, because everyone can build her or his own. Or will the AI agent make apps generally redundant? There will probably still be a stable core for databases, payments, and authentication – services with an API plus data. The winners will be those who own something an agent needs to call.
Yes, but also people in the HN bubble overestimate how many people would want to sit down and "prompt their own app". Just like I mostly don't want to bake my own bread and leave it to the professionals at the bakery.
I might be excited about doing my own music library management script, but probably less excited about building my own Photoshop if there's already a company in that space focusing on that as their core business.
Although baking bread and brewing bear has taken a similar increase in enthusiasm... Cheers!
I love this kind of work for agents.
I'm a dev/creative person. I have code and I have assets and I sometimes need to be in apps to manipulate assets and increasingly I'm looking for ways to agents to take care of it. I want to use apps less and less because I've witnessed how good an agent can be when given the right prompt/tools. As a photographer, I'd be happy to simply pop an SD card into my computer and tell an agent what to do with the contents.
You mean more like ImageMagick?

Would be interesting to see this grow more as a Unix-style toolkit rather than trying to become Lightroom in a terminal.
